How It All Began

We got our start in Canada in 1997, when our founder purchased U&R Tax Depot. We changed the name to Liberty Tax, and a new tax preparation leader was born. Our mission: Offer the flexibility of a personal tax consultant and the security of a large, established company.

Since our beginning, Liberty Tax has grown to more than 250 locations in Canada and more than 2,500 in the U.S. For the 2018 tax year, we prepared more than 1.7 million individual tax returns. Liberty Tax has become a force in the competitive tax preparation market, and we have maintained our personal approach to customer service. Taxpayers trust Liberty Tax to handle their taxes.
