SHOPPING ENTRES NOT PARTICIPATING IN TRICK OR TREATING THIS YEAR

EDMONTON (October 6, 2020) – Halloween is an exciting annual event for local Shopping Centres, and over the past few years a growing number of families have been choosing to visit malls to show off their costumes, participate in a variety of Halloween-themed activities, enjoy Halloween displays and décor, and of course go trick-or-treating at candy stations and stores. It is a highlight of the calendar year for many centres, and a day where they are able to connect with and give back to the communities that they are part of.

It is therefore with a heavy heart that we confirm that after careful discussion and review of the recently-released Alberta Health Guidelines for Halloween during Covid-19 (outlined here: https://www.alberta.ca/halloween-during-covid19.aspx), and to encourage safe practices in our communities for Halloween, the following shopping centres have confirmed that they will not be participating in traditional trick-or-treating on Halloween: (Please visit there respective websites for contests and alternative events.)

Please note that centres not included on this list may also be doing the same but have not yet opted-in to being included at this time.

In hopes of encouraging safe, physically distanced outdoor trick-or-treating as suggested by Alberta Health, these centres will not be setting up indoor candy stations or permitting retailers to hand out candy.

“When we talked about how we can best support our communities at Halloween this year, safety was the number one concern. It was clear that if we want families to be able to safely celebrate Halloween the best way to do that is, as Alberta Health guidelines suggest – outside, in their neighbourhoods,” says Tammy Abbott, Vice President of the Northern Alberta Shopping Centre Association. “We were actually all so thankful when the Alberta Health guidelines for Halloween came out and to hear that Halloween is still happening this year. It is a little unfortunate because all of these centres have so much Halloween spirit, but this year, we’re asking everyone to follow the guidelines set out by Alberta Health that give us a great framework on how to have a safe Halloween outdoors. Many centres are thinking up new ways of still showing their Halloween spirit, so keep an eye out for that as I don’t think they’ll be content to just not do anything.” - Tammy Abbott, Vice President of the Northern Alberta Shopping Centre Association

Many of these centres intend to continue to celebrate Halloween in new, creative ways. Please visit their websites for more information as it becomes available.

LONDONDERRY PARTNERS WITH LOCAL BUSINESES, CHILDREN’S WISH FOUNDATION AND AUTISM
EDMONTON TO BUILD COMMUNITY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

Thursday, November 14, 2019 (Edmonton, Alberta) – This holiday season, Londonderry Mall is focused on giving back to its
community through programming and events that benefit local charitable groups or bring people together in a meaningful way.
On November 17, Mr. & Mrs. Claus will make their way back to Londonderry during Santa’s Arrival Brunch where guests can
enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast by donation which this year benefits the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“Events like these are so important to our organization as every donation big or small counts in helping to make our wishes come
true. There is nothing like seeing the joy on a child’s face when we grant a wish, which would not be possible without the support
of businesses like Londonderry” said April Stallings, Resource Development Manager, Children’s Wish Foundation, Alberta & NWT
Chapter.
The annual brunch has raised approximately $4,000 for charities over the past four years. The event is possible only with the help
of its sponsors and partners like Albert’s, a locally owned and operated restaurant located in Londonderry’s east wing.
“We love partnering with Londonderry on this event as it embodies what the holidays are all about – spending time with one
another and giving back. We’ve been in business for over 29 years and always enjoy seeing our north-east community members
join us year after year,” said Dianna Manna, Owner of Albert’s.
Goodie bags are provided to the first 200 children and are filled with treats and store savings. The brunch serves as the kick-off to
holiday photos with Santa that take place from November 24 – December 15 in Centre Court.
Londonderry Mall will also be partnering with Autism Edmonton to offer private Silent Santa photo sessions by appointment.
Silent Santa is held before mall hours without special lighting and limited music to help children with sensory sensitivities enjoy
their very own private visit with Mr. & Mrs. Claus.
“This is our fourth year working with Londonderry on Silent Santa and it’s been a huge success. We get more requests every year
which just shows how much need there is for this type of programming in our community. Every child deserves to have a special
moment with Santa and events like Silent Santa make it possible,” said Iryna Bajraktari, Marketing and Community Coordinator,
Autism Edmonton.
Silent Santa appointments are available on November 24, December 1, 8 and 15 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:50 a.m. Time slots can be
booked by calling Guest Services at 780-476-1441.
Londonderry will be sharing additional information in the coming weeks on its first-ever Winter Build Days, an event focused on
bringing people together to build LEGO structures and the annual Cop Shop, where deserving students are paired with local
police officers for a special shopping trip.

COPSHOP COMES TO LONDONDERRY MALL JUST IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS!

Uniting Edmonton’s Youth and Police Officers for an Afternoon of Holiday Shopping and Merriment.

December 5, 2016 (Edmonton, Alberta): This Wednesday, December 7, Londonderry Mall will welcome 10 members of Edmonton’s Police Service and 20 children from 4 different north east community schools to participate in the first ever CopShop hosted at the 20VIC property. This feel good community initiative provides children a unique opportunity to take part in a Christmas shopping spree, and to meet and enjoy spending time with local police officers.

CopShop is a national 20VIC initiative that launched in 2008. Over twelve shopping centres have participated in the program and Londonderry Mall looks forward to launching a successful program this holiday season. The shopping centre will give a $200 gift card to each participating child.  Each police officer volunteers as a personal shopper for two of the CopShop kids. Not only does this event provide an opportunity for Londonderry to give back to the community, but it also allows local police officers to interact with youth in a meaningful way.

Four local elementary schools will participate in the program - St. Francis of Assisi, Calder, Lauderdale and Mee-Yah-Noh schools. The children attending are in elementary school (between the ages of 5 and 12) and have been identified as being most deserving by school principals and EPS liaison officers.  Participants will enjoy a pizza party luncheon upon arrival, mix and mingling, and a short visit from Santa to deliver Christmas stockings prior to the shopping spree.

SIMONS PARTNERS WITH 20 VIC ON INSTALLATION OF ONE OF THE LARGEST
SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEMS IN A CANADIAN SHOPPING CENTRE

More than 50% of store’s electrical usage to be powered by parking lot and rooftop photovoltaic modules at the new Londonderry in Edmonton Edmonton, Alberta (September 16, 2016) – When Simons opens its new Londonderry location in Edmonton August 2017, it will be bringing a whole lot more than just fashion to the City. In partnership with 20 VIC Management Inc., the Canadian fashion retailer announced today as part of its commitment to sustainable design it will self-generate over 50% of its overall electrical usage with the installation of a solar-electric system on the mall parking lot and on the store roof.

“We are thoroughly examining how we can reduce our environmental impact throughout the whole company, from the suppliers we work with to the raw materials we use”, said CEO Peter Simons. “Our stores are the visual and tactile part of the Simons experience so it is extremely important that we continue testing sustainability initiatives, like the latest in solar PV technology, on location where we interact with our customers.”

Some of the highlights of the store’s sustainable design program include:
• The addition of one of the largest solar-electric systems in a retail project in Canada including 700 solar-electric modules on the parking lot and 1100 modules on the roof. The parking lot canopy will protect customers from the elements as well as provide them a front row seat to the latest in solar technology in action. The combined solar-electric system will generate 470,000 kWh/year (equivalent to 65 homes) and will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 300 tonnes/year;
• Electric car charging stations will be installed in the parking lot adjacent to the store;
• An interior lighting program that includes LED lighting throughout the entire store as well as dimmable light fixtures adjacent to naturally lit areas of store to maximize natural day light, reducing electricity devoted to lighting by more than 40%.

“With Edmonton being one of the sunniest cities in Canada, Londonderry was a natural testing ground for the latest in solar-electric technology,” said Jordan Adams, general manager, Londonderry Mall.

“Simons is leading the way in leveraging innovation to create new standards for sustainability in retail and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them to bring visibility to solar technologies in Canada.”

Simons will open its Londonderry location on Thursday, August 24th, 2017.
